and the outsiders say...
ok so I haven't blogged in a really long time
but over the last two days I have read more blog entries and articles and watched more vlogs than I think I watched during my whole undergrad dissertation study.
And every single one was about the same topic...
so forgive me for jumping on the bandwagon but I want to get my opinion out there. (even if it doesn't even matter!)
For me it all began on Saturday when i remembered that the streamy's where on Sunday (i say remembered, I mean I was reminded by all those on my twitter lists letting me know it was on)
To be honest it was a bit of a lift, because i had been so unwell last week. Something to kick me into motion this week back at work!
So on Sunday I planned my night ahead, had an extra long lie in on Sunday to prepare for the long night ahead and brushed up on my knowledge of some of the nominees!
So to cut a very lobng story short I ended up missing the Streamys... between my parents possibly being burgled (dont worry they didn't really, they just put away their laptop and couldn't find it) and organisational duties and the necessity of doing my tan before going back to work, the streamys where "mislayed" in my train of thought.
I actually had a dream about them, reminising about last year, and the glitz and glamour that i was sure was to be happening while i used up all of the Z's my body could.
I woke up early on Monday morning and retrieved my nice shiney new phone from it's charger and was straight onto twitter.
and there it was...
http://twitter.com/maxwellglick/status/12024004343
"The streamys are a complete disaster"
I read other tweets, Maxwell Glicks being possibly the most polite.
I searched for a good tweet, i was then onto google, reports of naked men streaking onto the stage with no sign of security to remove them, and technical issues all over the place.
And then that word...
VULGAR
if a report didnt say vulgar it was replaced with crass. I just couldn't believe it. between crude sex jokes and then on to a host that demeaned all the work that all the fantastic nominees had done over the past few years.
i honestly had to put down the phone. As I raced out to work I wondered if i had searched the wrong awards show. Surely a New Media Awards Ceremony wouldn't be making the creators of said New Media stupid by disgracing them infront of "traditional" media.
it felt like it was the most inteligent and cool kid in the class failing on purpose just to prove their old fuddy duddy teacher right, that you can't be cool and be smart!
over the past two days I have read countless blogs including one that actually made me quite upset/angry. A horrible Turn's Blog (http://tinyurl.com/horribleturn) discussed his experience of being a Nominee at this years Streamys.
If only he had know that those first early warning signs had been just that! byut like they say hindsight is twenty twenty vision!
so you may be asking what has my title got to say about this whole nightmare?
well occasionally in this great community that some of us call the Web entertainment there is an "Them adn Us " mentality. and by them and us I mean america and the rest of us. There are fantastic productions being made all over the world. So why, this year was the whole world looking towards LA for the Awards cermony of all Awards Cememonies for web?
We need to get our acts together and as a friend in the lg15 community "put the W back into WWW"
But I guess there is at least one good thing about not being in America during the New Media "boom"
I got to miss the Streamys! :(
